When a door is kicked in, the door itself usually survives. What breaks is the frame: the strip of wood around the strike plate splits off, the jamb cracks along its length, and the deadbolt has nothing left to lock into. The house is open until the frame is fixed. KapMorgan repairs kicked-in and broken door frames in Los Angeles. We remove the splintered wood, glue and fasten what can be saved, replace the broken section of the jamb or stop, and reinforce the strike area so the deadbolt holds again. The repaired frame is filled and ready for paint. Frame work like this is part of our door frame and threshold repair service.

Securing the Door After a Break-In
The first question after a forced entry is whether the door can be locked tonight. Send photos as soon as the police are done, and tell us the door cannot lock; we fit urgent frame repairs into the schedule as early as we can, often the same or the next day. On the visit we rebuild the frame so the deadbolt has solid wood to lock into, and we reinforce the strike: a heavy strike plate with screws long enough to reach the wall framing, not just the thin jamb. That is the part a kick usually breaks, and reinforcing it makes the door much harder to force again. If the lock was damaged, we replace or rekey it in the same visit.

★★★★★“Ivan is the reason why I love thumbtack. Responded quickly to my emergency need of fixing our front door, then stayed to fixed 3 others until he had to leave for his next job. He was very responsive and communicative on ETA and brought supplies based off pictures I sent. I would hire him again for future jobs.”

How a Kicked-In Door Frame Is Repaired
Most door frames are made of a thin pine jamb and a stop nailed onto it. A kick drives the deadbolt through that thin wood, and the jamb splits along the grain. If the pieces are still there and clean, they can often be glued and clamped back with screws. If the wood is shattered, we cut out the broken length and fit a new section of jamb and stop, joined so the seam is solid and hidden once painted.
The strike area is where the frame needs to be strongest. A standard strike plate is held by two short screws in soft wood. We fit a heavier strike and use screws long enough to reach the stud behind the jamb, so the force of a kick goes into the wall framing. On the hinge side we do the same with one long screw per hinge.
A badly damaged door, or a frame that is broken along its whole height, may be better replaced with a new prehung door. We tell you when that is the case from the photos, so you can decide before the visit.
