Pacific Palisades sits between the Santa Monica Mountains and the ocean, and most homes we work on here are 1950s and 1960s ranch and traditional houses on sloped lots. Hillside settling slowly pulls door frames out of square, the marine layer keeps exterior wood damp for months, and nearly every house has a sliding door out to a patio or back yard.

“Fixed sliding patio doors That didn’t lock , Professional and kind Thank you for your help will call again”

    Yaarit T. · Door repair · Thumbtack · Jun 2026

“Kapp was amazing! He fixed my bathroom pocket door that got off track and was hanging weird and wouldnt close or open properly. He fixed the door without having to tear open the wall and helped paint the door from previous scratches. He came back afterwards because the pocket door had such a slim opening that it would scratch the door whenever opening and closing and installed a plastic thing that kept the door straight whenever it was moved to prevent further issues. He was fairly priced and very professional. He even helped fix a drawer handle that fell off and checked some lights in the backyard that I had issues with. I would highly recommend him to anyone. Good work and honest guy!”

    Pacific Palisades Homes and Repairs

Many Palisades streets climb toward the canyons, and a house built on a slope keeps moving a little for decades. A door that closed fine ten years ago starts to rub at the top corner, the latch misses the strike, or a gap opens under the sweep. In most cases the door itself is still good: we drive longer screws through the hinges into the framing, plane the edge where it rubs, move the strike and seal the bare wood so it does not soak up moisture again.

Closer to the bluffs, the marine layer and salt air are the bigger problem. Plated brass and steel hardware pits, hinge pins rust and bind, and painted exterior doors start to peel along the bottom rail. We replace corroded parts with stainless or coated hardware and seal the door edges, so the repair holds through the foggy months of May and June.

KapMorgan is based in North Hills, and the Palisades is at the western edge of our service area, so visits are usually booked about a week ahead. If you have several small items, like a slider, a shower door and a loose cabinet hinge, list them together and we will price and finish them in one trip.

Door & Shower Door Repair in Pacific Palisades

The sliding door to the back patio is the most common call we get from the Palisades. On original 1950s and 1960s sliders the steel rollers wear flat, sand and leaves pack into the bottom track and the latch no longer meets the keeper, so the door grinds, jumps the track or will not lock. We lift the panel out, fit new rollers, clean and true the track and adjust the latch. Inside, the same houses often keep solid hall and bedroom doors that are worth saving, and door repair and adjustment usually costs far less than a new slab. Bathrooms updated in the last twenty years tend to have frameless or framed glass shower doors; worn hinges, side seals and drip sweeps are a one-visit swap on the existing glass.

    FAQ

    Pacific Palisades Handyman FAQ

Usually, yes. Most of these doors only need the hinges re-anchored into the framing, the strike moved and the rubbing edge planed and sealed. If the frame itself is badly out of square, we tell you before any work starts.
We repair most of them. New rollers, a cleaned track and an adjusted latch bring an original slider back in one visit; sliding door repair starts at $125.
Stainless steel or hardware with a marine-grade coating. Standard plated brass and steel pit and rust within a few seasons here, so we suggest the better grade for every exterior door.
Door repair and adjustment starts at $125, new locks from $85 and weatherstripping from $95. You get the exact price from your photos before the visit is booked, and the online estimate is free.
Yes. Hinges, side seals and the bottom drip sweep are replaced on the existing glass in one visit; shower door repair starts at $125.
Yes. We hang new interior doors and pre-hung entry doors in existing openings. Many 1950s openings are not today’s standard sizes, so we measure the frame before ordering the door.
No. Mention the access when you book, and we bring everything needed in one trip so there is no back and forth.
About a week is typical, because the Palisades is at the western end of our area. Putting several small jobs on one visit makes the trip worth it for you.
Yes. New weatherstripping, a door sweep and an adjusted threshold stop drafts and moisture under the door, one of the most common winter requests in coastal homes.
